Next NIDs schedule April 9 – 11, along with OPV Vitamin-A capsule will be provided to children 6 months to 59 months. Vitamin A is essential for normal functioning of immune system as well as normal growth, reproduction and vision, while a deficiency can result in increased risk of childhood morbidity and mortality, due to different infections like measles and polio.
Let us monitor NIDs in the low transmission season. The last two low transmission campaigns are in April and May. Every child must receive OPV and in some cases OPV with IPV in high risk areas, to build immunity in susceptible children. This is our only hope. Let us not be complacent in doing everything we can to end polio in Pakistan. Let us not fail the mission that has brought us so close to the finish line.
